An overview of screws for edge profiles
To fix edge profiles, use screws with a reduced No. 1 drill point. This drill point is designed for thin sheet metal up to a maximum of 2 × 1.25 mm – just right for overlapping end plates.
Screws with DS drive
| Screw | Sealing ring | Length | Price from/100 pcs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7140 | 10 mm | 20 mm | €35.49 |
| 7141 | 10 mm | 16 mm | €35.48 |
Screws 7140 and 7141 have a DS drive (double slot) and a small 10 mm sealing ring. They are suitable for delicate fastenings where a discreet screw head is required.
Screws with hex drive
| Screw | Sealing washer | Special feature | Price from/100 pcs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7550 | 16 mm | Standard | €28.83 |
| 7553 | 16 mm | With backstitch | €30.05 |
The 7550 and 7553 screws have a hexagonal head (SW 8) and a 16 mm sealing washer. They are more robust and quicker to install. The 7553 also features a countersink, which makes it easier to drive into thicker sheet metal overlaps.
Fixing edge profiles correctly
Screw spacing: Position the screws at intervals of approximately 300 to 500 mm. Shorter intervals are recommended in exposed areas (corners, joints).
Tightness: The sealing washer must lie flat against the sheet metal. Screws that are tightened too much will crush the seal; those that are too loose will allow water to seep through.
Colour-matched: Many of our screws are available with colour-matched heads. This ensures the fixings blend in visually with the edge profiles.
Why use special screws for edge profiles?
Edge profiles are thinner than sandwich panels and require specially adapted fasteners:
Smaller washers: Edge profile screws have 10 mm or 16 mm washers instead of the 22 mm washers used with panel screws. This looks more proportionate on narrow sheets.
Reduced drill bit: No. 1 drill bit is optimised for thin sheets. It drills cleanly through overlaps of up to 2 × 1.25 mm without deforming the material.
Shorter lengths: With lengths of 16 to 20 mm, these screws are tailored to the typical sheet thicknesses of edge profiles.
Frequently asked questions about screws for folded-edge profiles
Technically possible, but not recommended. Panel screws are longer and have larger washers. This looks out of proportion on narrow channel sections and can lead to deformation in thin sheet metal.
For discreet fastenings in visible areas, we recommend the 7140 or 7141 with a small head. For quick assembly and robust joints, the 7550 and 7553 with a hexagonal head are more suitable.
Yes, the 7550 and 7553 screws are also used for sheet-to-sheet joints with trapezoidal sheets. You will therefore also find them in our ‘Screws for trapezoidal sheets’ category.
